Opinion: Wolves signing £22.91m man would be bad news for 19 y/o and 20 y/o

According to Voetbal Belgie via Sportsmole, Wolverhampton Wanderers would have to pay €25m (£22.91) to sign Emmanuel Dennis this summer.

The 22-year-old has been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle United after an impressive campaign at Club Brugge, but his arrival at Molineux may not be welcomed by two players.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Leonard Campana and Renat Dadashov have been developing in the U23s and are hoping to be promoted to the first-team by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves signing Dennis would greatly harm their chances, however, as the 22-year-old would go straight into the first-team squad – he’s had a hand in 38 goals in 103 games for Brugge.

The Midlands outfit aren’t paying £22.91m for a player to compete with those in the reserves.

Campana only joined Wolves from Barcelona SC Guayaquil in January and has been on the fringes of the first-team.

The 19-year-old has made Nuno’s matchday squad in the Europa League but has yet to be introduced from the bench. Next season, he’s expected to be in and around the first-team, but Dennis would be added competition.

Dadashov has the same problem. The 20-year-old is further down the pecking order and would have a difficult task of getting minutes without a new face standing in his way.

Nuno has plumped for youth this season, naming 17 players aged 21 or under in Wolves’ matchday squad at least once this season, but he needs a tried and tested centre-forward as cover for Raul Jimenez.

Any players we sign will be added to the squad and would have to get their place on merit not cost.
