Roderick Miranda left Wolverhampton Wanderers to join Famalicao on loan until the end of the season, but his move to Portugal couldn’t have gone worse.

The 28-year-old has made nine appearances for his new club, but his performances have left a lot to be desired and resulted in him being dropped by manager João Pedro Sousa.

After missing three games through injury, Miranda was sent off in only his third Primeira Liga outing for Famalicao. He was red-carded after 34 minutes in their 2-2 draw with Braga (November 3, 2019) and subsequently missed their 3-3 draw with Moreirense (November 9).

He started three consecutive league games that Famalicao lost – 2-1 to Portimonense (November 30), 3-2 to Tondela (December 7), 4-0 to Benfica (December 14) and has since been dropped from the starting eleven.

The 28-year-old didn’t make the matchday squad in Famalicao’s 3-0 win over Vitoria Setubal (January 5, 2020) and was on the bench in their 1-0 win over Boavista (January 11).

Miranda has struggled out on loan (423 minutes from a possible 1080) and doesn’t appear to have a future at Molineux either. His last appearance came in Wolves’ 3-0 defeat to Sunderland (May 6, 2018) in the Championship and he’s since fallen way down the pecking order.

Nuno Espirito Santo has Conor Coady, Leandendocker, Romain Saiss, Ryan Bennett and Max Kilman who can all play centre-back. Jesus Vallejo is still at the club too.

The Portuguese defender still has 18 months remaining on his contract at Wolves, but the club are unlikely to stand in his way of a permanent departure.
