Opinion: Wolves exit couldn’t have gone worse for 22-year-old
Jack Ruddy ended a four-year association with Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer, joining Ross County on a six-month deal. The 22-year-old failed to impress back in Scotland, however, and wasn’t handed a contract extension as a result.
Ruddy was released for the second time in less than a year in January and hasn’t enjoyed life after leaving Wolves. The goalkeeper’s stint at County was marred by injury and saw him leave without making a first-team appearance. Ruddy has been a free agent for three weeks and has yet to find a new club.
In his four years at Wolves, the Scotland u21 international only managed to represent the u18s and u23s. He made the matchday squad just once – in Wolves’ 3-1 defeat to Derby County (April 29, 2017) – so Ruddy was never really close to breaking into the first-team.
Where he’ll go next remains to be seen, however. Nuno Espirito Santo has Rui Patricio and John Ruddy as his first and second-choice between the sticks, so he’s unlikely to miss the 22-year-old. In the u23s, James Collins has James Pardington and Andreas Söndergaard.
