There was a lot of speculation about Raul Jimenez’s future at Wolverhampton Wanderers over the summer. The 29-year-old had interest from Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus after his prolific campaign in 2019/20 and told Sky Sports that you have to “keep doors open”.

Despite flirting with suitors, Jimenez would eventually sign a new deal with Wolves until 2024, so it’s clear he always wanted to stay. Unfortunately, Mexican media haven’t got the memo, as they continue talking up his departure.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

What’s being said?

According to Bolavip, Jimenez could be a target for RB Leipzig, Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach and Valencia. I don’t see the point of this article, to be honest, as the Mexican international won’t be sold. He has four years remaining on his deal and wouldn’t be allowed to leave midway through a campaign, so Bolavip’s claims don’t hold much water.

Jimenez scored 17 goals and made six assists in 38 Premier League games last season, and has bagged three goals in five this campaign, so it’s no surprise that clubs may be interested. His fine form under Nuno Espirito Santo (105 appearances, 47 goals, 18 assists) is exactly why we’ve tied him down to a long-term deal, however. Selling Jimenez would be an awful decision.

Prediction

I believe we hold all the cards. We’ve protected a valuable asset and therefore won’t be bullied into a sale because their contract is expiring. We can ask for however much money we want, and it doesn’t appear Jimenez will rock the boat to leave. This puts us in a strong position.

The 29-year-old’s career has gone from strength to strength since he turned up at Molineux and he’s thriving with regular football at the top level. Jimenez couldn’t get a game at his former club Benfica, but now he’s one of the best strikers in Europe.

Summary

I don’t think this will be the end of the rumours, especially if Jimenez continues his bright start to the new season, but supporters shouldn’t worry about losing him. He’s committed his future for the long-term, so we can reject any approach without repercussions.

In other news, Adama Traore has fended off interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool to sign a new deal at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
