Nuno Espirito Santo has somewhat of a selection headache ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ meeting with Tottenham – what to do with Ryan Bennett and Leander Dendoncker.
Wolves’ 45-year-old manager made seven changes to his squad in Thursday’s Europa League win over Besiktas, starting Bennett at centre-back while Dendoncker played in midfield, but there may not be room for both players to start against Tottenham on Sunday.
Bennett was a regular when fit earlier in the season, starting Wolves’ first four league games, but Dendoncker has been a regular at centre-back from November onwards. If Romain Saiss starts alongside Conor Coady in defence, there will only be one spot for Bennett and Dendoncker to fight for.
And with Bennett racking up just five minutes of Premier League football since mid-October, Dendoncker is likely to get the nod. The 29-year-old may want a rest from his midweek excursions too, so Nuno will be mindful to manage his fitness.
Wolves often line up with a familiar back three of Saiss, Coady and Dendoncker in the league. That should be the case against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon too.
