Ruben Neves has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and it’s hard to see him turning down Los Blancos if they make an official bid. The 22-year-old has spent two years at Wolverhampton Wanderers since joining from FC Porto, going on to make 107 appearances in all competitions.
Neves has been a terrific servant for Wolves while also becoming one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League during his time in England, but he’s always been destined to join a European giant. Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid were circling the Portuguese international long before Wolves signed him.
It’s unlikely Neves would be sold mid-season given his importance to Nuno Espirito Santo, however. Wolves are currently sixth in the table and five points adrift of the top-four after 16 games. They’re also in the last-32 of the Europa League, having progressed from a group (K) containing SC Braga, Slovan Bratislava and Besiktas.
Wolves would be foolish to let such a talented player leave, but they may be resigned to losing Neves next summer. Real are looking for a Luka Modric replacement and are likely to put up a lot of money. Time will tell if a deal materialises.
