Opinion: Defender won’t be joining Wolves for £10m in January

|

Despite being overstocked on central defenders, Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked with a £10m move for Ben Davies in November. There’s been no progress made in the last two months, however, which suggests he won’t be on his way to Molineux.

The 24-year-old has been watched by a number of Premier League scouts this season, so Wolves would have had stiff competition for his signature. Davies has been a regular for Preston North End too, making 24 appearances across the board, so the Lilywhites may be keen to hold onto him until the summer.

Preston are currently sixth in the Championship and won’t want to lose key players while they’re challenging for a playoff place. Wolves haven’t made any steps to bring Davies to the Midlands since the story broke either, so it appears he’ll stay at Deepdale for the remainder of the campaign.

Nuno Espirito Santo has Conor Coady, Willy Boly, Leander Dendoncker, Romain Saiss, Ryan Bennett and Max Kilman to choose from, so he’s not short on centre-back options. Davies may have found it tough to get much playing time had he made the switch.
