With expectations high for Wolverhampton Wanderers this season, Matt Doherty has revealed that the club do not have a strict target when it comes to a position in the Premier League this season, the focus is one game at a time and simply as many three points and wins as possible.

Having run away with the Championship title last season, we have returned to the top flight and taken five points from our opening four fixtures as we continue to adjust, but obviously, we took a very creditable point from reigning Champions Manchester City.

Speaking to the E&S earlier in the week, Doherty revealed that we hadn’t put the pressure on – despite the expectations around the club – and it was the quintessential ‘one game at a time’ cliche in play.

“We won the league last year, we obviously believe we’re good enough for this league and our performances are starting to show that now. It comes from Nuno, that confidence. We’ve not set a specific position where we want to finish, it’s just ‘win every game we go in to’ pretty much. It’s impossible but that’s the belief, he makes us feel we can win every game.”

It’s certainly done us no harm so far with performances and results and really for our first year back, despite the hype and hope, it’s a very sensible approach as the only thing we should aim for is consolidation and then anything more is a bonus for this year.

No point setting ourselves up for a fail as we are still building.
