Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced the departure of Phil Ofosu-Ayeh, confirming the 28-year-old ‘left the club’ on a free transfer this summer.

Vital Wolves have previously highlighted how Ofosu-Ayeh failed to make a first-team appearance in his three years at Molineux, struggled with injury problems throughout and came to the end of his contract, so his exit was no surprise.

Ofosu-Ayeh joined Wolves on a free transfer from Eintracht Braunschweig in 2017 but never made the step-up to the senior squad. After picking up an ankle injury in his debut season, he was loaned out to Hanna Rostock (August 31, 2018 – January 30, 2019) and made seven appearances.

He then moved to Würzburger Kickers (January 31, 2019 – June 30, 2019) midway through last season and made four appearances before returning to Wolves. Ofoso-Ayeh came back to Compton last summer but was frozen out of the Premier League and Europa League squads by Nuno Espirito Santo.

With Matt Doherty first-choice at right-back while Oskar Buur provided backup after his promotion from the U23s, Wolves don’t need the Ghanian international. Questions must be asked what the recruitment team saw in him three years ago too.

The injury-prone and inexperienced 28-year-old is now on the hunt for his tenth club.
