Official: Wolves confirm new deal for 19 y/o, goalkeeper’s ‘option has been extended’

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed a new deal for James Pardington, revealing the 19-year-old’s ‘option has been extended’ for another season. Pardington was coming to the end of a 12-month extension signed in June 2019 but has clearly progressed enough at youth level to warrant keeping.

The young goalkeeper has gone from the U18s to the U23s in the last year and was loaned out to a Southern League Premier Division side for competitive football, but Pardington’s challenge this season will be getting regular minutes in the reserves and making the matchday squad for a first-team game.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

The 19-year-old joined Wolves from Rushall Olympic in 2018 and has gone on to make 10 appearances in the U18s, conceding 20 goals and keeping two clean sheets. He’s also made one appearance for the U23s, conceding one goal.

As per Transfermarkt, Pardington was promoted to the reserves in the second half of last season but has spent the majority of his time as an unused substitute – Andreas Sondergaard stands in his way of getting regular action.

Rui Patricio, John Ruddy and Sondergaard are Wolves’ first, second and third-choice goalkeepers, but can Pardington upset the applecart? A short-term loan move could improve his chances, but he needs to aim higher than a semi-pro club like Stratford Town.
