Official: Wolves confirm fifth summer departure, midfielder ‘leaving from Wolves academy’

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that Ming-Yang Yang is ‘leaving from Wolves Academy’, joining Jordan Graham, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh, Connor Johnson and Callum Thompson through the exit door.

The 24-year-old failed to make a first-team appearance in his three years at Wolves, was loaned out to a Spanish Segunda Division B side that have since gone bust and had come to the end of his contract this summer, so his exit isn’t a surprise.

Yang joined the Midlands outfit from FC Winterthur in August 2017 and went on to make five appearances at U23 level. The Swiss midfielder featured three times for the reserves in his debut season but was unable to break into the first-team, so he moved out on loan the following campaign.

Yang made 30 appearances for FC Jumilla (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019), who now don’t exist as a club. He returned to Compton last summer and was back in the reserves.

The 24-year-old featured in Wolves’ 4-3 defeat to Liverpool (October 20), their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur (October 26) and was an unused substitute in Wolves’ EFL Trophy defeat to Salford (December 3).

With Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker, Bruno Jordao and Morgan Gibbs-White standing in Yang’s way of getting first-team football, his departure has been on the cards for some time.
