Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of Leonardo Campana from Ecuadorian side Barcelona SC Guayaquil. The 19-year-old is Wolves’ eleventh signing of the season and is contracted at Molineux until 2023.

Campana made 21 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona SC, scoring and creating seven goals after rising through the youth ranks. The Ecuadorian international will provide much-needed depth in attack for Wolves, but it remains to be seen if he’s competing with Raul Jimenez for a starting place.

Nuno Espirito Santo has been desperate for more firepower after Patrick Cutrone was loaned out to Fiorentina, as Wolves were left with only Jimenez to call upon. The 28-year-old has racked up a staggering 36 appearances already this season and may benefit from a rest.

It’s unknown whether Campana is at the level required to make an instant impact in England, however, as he’s only played in the LigaPro Serie A. Nuno has placed his faith a lot of young talent at Wolves – Pedro Neto (aged 19), Morgan Gibbs-White (19), Ruben Vinagre (20) – but Campana may need time to settle before he’s thrown in the deep end.
