Wolverhampton Wanderers were clearly second best in last Sunday’s clash against Huddersfield Town.
Falling to a 2-0 defeat at the Molinuex all Wolves fans can really do is what head coach Nuno Espirito Santo did at the fulltime whistle and that’s hold their hands up and admit the better team on the day won.
Wolves were not at the races and we were outplayed, but although this is now our worst run of form under the Portuguese gaffer and whilst it was undoubtedly our worst individual performance in a long time, we’ve took to life in the top-flight pretty well all things considered so feelings of disappointment and frustration will be natural, but they should be tempered and kept in check.
Speaking to Sky Sports the gaffer explained.
“It was a bad performance. We played badly today and Huddersfield were the better team. It was not a good day for us and we didn’t perform well. There were too many mistakes and there are things we have to improve. This week we have to make a deep reflection on what we want and how we want to play. My concern is only about this game and to solve it this week, so the team is prepared to compete for the next game.”
Having performed well against the big boys in the division so far, maybe it has been a touch of complacency? Maybe our efforts given the lack of early rotation has now caught up with us, with so many players now also balancing international action? Maybe it’s just a perfectly naturally small dip everyone has during a season?
What matters is how we bounce back and Santo’s own words show that’s now where our focus is but he’s not going to make major changes and throw out what’s worked already, and you wouldn’t expect him to.
