The Express & Star reported this weekend that Wolverhampton Wanderers were on the verge of announcing that star man Ruben Neves had agreed a new five-year deal at the Molineux.
The 21-year-old midfielder had a phenomenal first year in English football and he set the Championship alight with his skill. The Portuguese playmaker was clearly a key man for Nuno Espirito Santo as we ran to the Championship title and secured promotion back to the Premier League.
It wasn’t just Wolves fans who warmed to the youngster, he took our Player of the Season gong, found himself named in the Professional Footballers’ Association Championship Team of the Year and even won the April Goal of the Month campaign run by Sky Bet for his stunning volley against Derby County.
The report said the club were now almost ready to announce that the player had agreed to a new five-year deal that would keep him with us until the summer of 2023 and it would be another great statement from the club if it proves to be true.
Fans have certainly called for this news on social media previously as the former Porto player has already shown himself capable of being a snip at £15.8million and he’ll undoubtedly only get better in the future.
If the club beat me to an official announcement and I look bit silly given I’ve timered this piece, I’m certainly not going to be unhappy!
Super news ????

Great news on Neves, he did have 4 years left on current deal, but still further commitment to the club and a show of ambition and hell he deserves that pay rise, sure huge buy clause too #wwfc #neves #greatestshowman

Excellent news but ultimately it just means we can command more money for him when he leaves.

Neves signing a new 5 year deal. That is bigger than us signing him in the first place. Great work from @Wolves and great trust from @rubendsneves_ believing in the club. #WolvesAyWe #WWFC
