For many a home defeat to Tottenham isn’t something to get too down hearted about.

As fans we obviously want to win every game, but realistically we know that the way the Premier League has become, there are certain games that you take as a bonus and do not really rely on taking anything from.

Tottenham, considering they were in the Champions League last season and will once again be competing for the top four are one of those matches.

But for an hour or so we were well in the game and sometimes, when you get the chance to take an unexpected result you have to take it.

In previous years we did this rather successfully, taking points that we didn’t expect to get, but crucially losing points that we should have taken.

McCarthy is desperate to not see a repeat of previous seasons and who can blame him.

For us to learn we have to take our chances when they arise.

“We played well but we lost and I don`t want to be that team we were two years ago when we had heroic failure.’ McCarthy told the Express & Star.

He added: “When you`re playing well and having as much of the game as the opposition, you need to take your chances or create one you can get a goal from.

“For 70 minutes we were right in it and if we`d have scored when we had the chances, we could have nicked something.”

He concluded: “In those last 20 minutes we were made to look a bit daft and not as good as we`d played in the first 70.”
