On the surface Wolves do not seem to be any closer to naming a new boss then they were a week ago.

Wolves head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell has been leading the process whilst chief executive Jez Moxey was on a short break.

A number of candidates have been linked with the new ‘Head Coach’ role at Molineux.

Former Millwall manager Kenny Jackett, who quit his job on the same day as Saunders was sacked remains the bookies favourite at 11/4 with SkyBet.

Thelwell and Jackett are known to have held talks, but he is yet to speak to CEO Moxey.

Current second favourite for the job is former England manager Steve McClaren at 3/1 who is also thought to have had some form of contact regarding the position.

Other names in the frame appear to be Bradford manager Phil Parkinson (66/1 BetVictor), Charlton boss Chris Powell (50/1 SkyBet), Milton Keynes Dons manager Karl Robinson (50/1 BetVictor), Brighton coach Gus Poyet (66/1 BetVictor), Motherwell`s Stuart McCall (66/1 BetVictor) and former Midlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate (66/1 BetVictor).

The Express & Star believe that Moxey and Thelwell will form a shortlist of around six candidates before owner Steve Morgan has his say a second wave of interviews.

An appointment could then be made as soon as next week.
