‘Mr Consistent’ – Journalist explains why Wolves won’t sell £20.25m-rated man

Tim Spiers of The Athletic called Leander Dendoncker ‘Mr Consistent’ and says he’s too valuable for Wolverhampton Wanderers to lose. Spiers’ recent piece explained how much Nuno Espirito Santo likes the midfielder and how much he trusts in his ability. Dendoncker has been linked with a move to Lazio this summer and Vital Wolves have repeatedly said that it’s unlikely he’d be sold, but The Athletic have explained it in greater depth and it’s worth talking about.

Spiers noted how Nuno had no worries in dropping Adama Traore for Dendoncker in Wolves’ 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday and also noted how supporters weren’t questioning the manager’s decision because they trust his judgement and know how important the Belgian international has been.

As per WhoScored, Dendoncker has a better pass completion ratio (83%) and makes more tackles (1.8 pg) in the Premier League than Ruben Neves (79%) (1.5 pg). He’s scored as many goals (3) as Neves (2) and Joao Moutinho (1) combined and picks up considerably fewer bookings (4) than the Portuguese pair (16).

Dendoncker has played in 49 of 51 games this season, amassing 3614 minutes from a possible 4590. He’s impressed at centre-back and central midfield, so Wolves would surely never let him go as he’s far too important.
