I’ve often referred to the ‘Mick McCarthy out bandwagon’ for many years on Vital Wolves.

For the past couple of seasons its emergence and disappearance have been predictable, so much so that this season I predicted when it would begin to pick up some momentum and joked at it.

But one thing I didn’t predict this season though was just how much momentum it would gather over the past couple of months, so much so that it certainly isn’t a laughing matter any more.

It has now got to the stage that even public backing from owner Steve Morgan cannot stop the bandwagon picking up more speed as it carriers down the hill uncontrollably.

Even club sponsors have made McCarthy odds on to be sacked.

Sky Bet have installed McCarthy to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job as 2/5 favourite.

Even a late comment on Monday from chief executive Jez Moxey that stated that they were backing him by way of a third signing has done little to ease the pressure on McCarthy.

McCarthy however has remained as defiant as ever: ‘The biggest reason as to how I cope is that I don’t listen to the backdrop of what fans are saying, I do not go around in a glass cabinet – I am fully aware of what is going on.’ he told Sky Sports.

He continued: ‘If you listen to it, you would go off your head anyway. I just make sure I get on with it with Terry Connor, Pat Mountain and Steve Weaver and we try to find a result.

‘It is a results business but performances have been very good. We have played very well in recent weeks and I cannot question the performances at all.

‘I would not have done anything differently against Chelsea and Tottenham and I could not have done anything to make us any better.’

Vital Wolves Comment: I wouldn’t necessarily agree with Mick regarding the performances, I would be a hypocrite if I did considering how I responded to our recent FA Cup games with Birmingham, however I still support our Mick.

I am fully aware that I am just one of a ever decreasing group that still back McCarthy, I personally believe that Morgan and Moxey are still members of that group, so the only question is whether they will stick to their beliefs or listen to the pressure that is mounting.
