In May Wolverhampton Wanderers keeper Aaron McCarey alongside Hull midfielder Jake Livermore and Sheffield United striker Jose Baxter all failed drug tests over the same weekend.
23-year-old Wolves shotstopper Aaron McCarey was suspended by the Football Association after the former Republic Of Ireland Under-21 international failed a drug test for a non-performance enhancing substance.
In a statement from Wolves, the club announced that Aaron McCarey ‘strenuously denies’ deliberately taking any banned substance. But added that it was ‘extremely disappointed and concerned’ that one of its players had failed a drugs test.
According to the Express & Star should he be found guilty during a Football Association hearing this week he will be banned from football for six months.
Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett told the E&S: “It`s been quite a tough time for Aaron over the months where they`ve been obviously gathering information and he`s been on tenterhooks, really.
“He`s come back very fit and very determined and is training really hard. I`m sure a conclusion to it … will be good for him and good for the club.”
Sheffield United’s Jose Baxter also denies any wrongdoing after ‘traces of a banned substance’ were found in his test.
Hull midfielder Jake Livermore has been suspended by his club following a positive test for cocaine.
He faces a potential two-year ban under FA rules, pending further investigations to be made by the Football Association.
