Following the 1-1 draw between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City at the weekend, Belgian international Vincent Kompany believes that we could do Pep Guardiola’s side some favours this year when we face the accepted top six in the Premier League.
Welcoming them to the Molineux, we put in a solid showing against the reigning champions and won plenty of praise in the process for our style of play and the way we tried, in our own way, to take the game to them and it became a lively affair despite the scoreline.
Kompany was making his 250th appearance in the top-flight in the game and he was asked by the Manchester Evening News following the game what he’d made of us and whether or not we were the surprise package this season and capable of causing some upsets as the months tick by.
“I’m convinced they will. They don’t behave or play like a Championship team that has just been promoted. I’m confident that they will take points off our competitors. They are the typical type of team who is geared up to get big scalps because they have enough quality to play themselves out of situations when they are under pressure. The other thing is their key players work hard and that’s always a good mix.”
High praise indeed given the career that Kompany has had let alone his own success in the game and the important thing for me is there’s an expectation we’ll kick on and it’s more than just kind words playing a public relations game as ranks would’ve been broken by now with journalists looking for a headline
More of the same moving forward hopefully!
