A report on Sunderland Today has claimed Sunderland are considering a swoop for Stefan Postma in a bid to resurrect their nightmare Premiership season.

Mick McCarthy’s goalkeeping options are restricted to Ben Alnwick, his young homegrown ‘keeper or former Tractor Boy Kelvin Davis. Some people would say its not much choice at all. A lad still out to learn the game and another who at times looks like he is as well.

So it’s no surprise that McCarthy is casting his eye over Postma. Stefan has shown himself to be more than capable when called upon, helping Wolves to keep one of the tightest defences in the division. No longer wanted at Villa, his loan period at Wolves expired, Postma has shone over the last 12 games. 6 Clean sheets, 4 single goal matches, 4 wins, and only 2 losses which in the context of a 10 win,7 loss, 28 match stretch isnt too shabby.

He is also a bargain for a team desperate to strengthen without breaking the bank.

Stefan’s recent comments, reported on Vital Wolves would seem to indicate he is more than happy as the encumbant at Molineux, and Glenn Hoddle appears to have faith in the man who has earned the respect and applause of the Wolverhampton followers. Its difficult to imagine selling him a deal to leave a club developing something new and move from his local home in the midlands to Wearside, to sign a permanent deal with a relegation threatened , if not condemned club in decline.

But this is football, and much stranger things have happened.Today Hoddle revealed Postma has an inflamed toe, and hinted that he was still hopeful he would be available for Saturday, which would require a new loan deal to be signed by midday today. I hope Mick McCarthy has a second option. Because I think Hoddle is too wise to end up in the position McCarthy is in now.
