Loan watch: Wolves defender is an unused substitute in Portuguese Cup elimination

|

Roderick Miranda was an unused substitute as FC Famalicao were eliminated at the semi-final stage of the Taça de Portugal Placard. They lost over two legs to Benfica, losing 3-2 at the Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica (February 4) and drawing 1-1 at the Estádio Municipal de Famalicão (February 11).

Miranda was rested for both legs of the semi-final by João Pedro Sousa. The 28-year-old came off the bench late in the first meeting and wasn’t called upon in the return fixture. Attention will now turn to domestic matters and Famalicao face Aves on Saturday.

Sousa’s men currently sit sixth in the Primeira Liga with 32 points from 20 games, having gone four without a win. They’ll fancy their chances against an Aves side sitting rock bottom of the table with 16 defeats to their name.

And although Miranda was on the wrong end of a 7-0 defeat in his last appearance, he should return to the starting lineup. The Wolves loanee has been a regular in the league this season, featuring in 11 of Famalicao’s last 13 outings, so he’ll have a point to prove.
