It’s been a poorer week for Wolverhampton Wanderers fans given the now lofty hopes and expectations that surround the club following our Championship title win, stellar signings and promotion into the Premier League.

We’ve done incredibly well by anyone’s standards I would argue and yes, we’ve also had some dips and hiccups along the way, but that was always going to be the case as we adjusted to the top flight and continued to build and flesh the squad out – with summer captures needing to settle.

With a draw against Bournemouth, followed by a very poor defeat to Huddersfield Town, it’s now all eyes to another battle with Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City side this Saturday but we are sat in seventh place in the table with the European places as close as the relegation spots.

A solid top ten finish was all most hoped for this year, and we are on track to slightly better that.

Writing in his recent E&S column this week, Wolves legend Steve Bull called for a little calm and perspective on things, given the ructions and comments that some sections of the fanbase have made in light of our recent defeat.

Stop overreacting and respect where we are and have come from.

“We were disappointingly flat as we lost 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium, so let’s hope it was a one-off and complacency does not creep in now we have reached that 40-point mark. Reaching 40 points so early on in the season is obviously a bonus but, as players, it does not mean a great deal as you are told to give 100 per cent in every single game you play. And Nuno will be making sure he gets that message across ahead of hosting Cardiff on Saturday.”

Adding.

“I saw a fair bit of negativity after the Huddersfield game and fans always have the right to voice their opinion, but let’s be careful not to expect too much. It is easy to forget this is our first season back in the big time and we are still firmly in the top half, while also having a massive FA Cup quarter-final tie against Manchester United to look forward to. The beauty of football is you usually have a chance to soon put things right, so I can’t wait for us to take on the Bluebirds!”

I couldn’t be more in agreement.
