A turnover in Wolves’ playing squad is anticipated, if not expected, this summer but it might not be the playing side of things changing as Paul Lambert’s position as boss is ‘in doubt’ at the moment.

Lambert is concerned about the input ‘super agent’ Jorge Mendes will have when it comes to player recruitment at Wolves, leading to reports in the past few days from BBC Radio 5 live the former Norwich, Aston Villa and Blackburn boss could leave Molineux himself?

Helder Costa was a resounding success but a number of the signings brought to Molineux under Kenny Jackett, briefly, and then Walter Zenga in the Fosun reign – many failed to impress – have been on the recommendation of Mendes, who advises the owners.

It’s reported Lambert’s seeking assurances from Fosun he’ll be able to target the players he wishes to sign not those of the advisor Mendes, who acts as agent to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho. But, the understanding is the Chinese owners are leaning towards the backing of the agent and not the boss.

Lambert, 47, understandably isn’t happy.

According to the Express & Star, Lambert, appointed in November when Zenga was sacked 14 games, 89 days, into his spell at Molineux, could face the boot – if he doesn’t walk – with Fosun ‘sounding out’ potential replacements from ‘England and overseas.’
