This is a new one on me as it’s not often you have the boss complaining he’s got too many players with it usually the opposite! However, Paul Lambert has.

Wolves presently have a first team squad boasting 30 players with James Henry schedule to return from his half-season loan with Bolton next month as well.

Not all of those within this squad are fully fit though but Prince Oniangue, Lee Evans and Joe Mason aren’t far away. Mike Williamson could also return in the New Year with Jordan Graham and Michal Zyro expected back before the season is out.

Lambert has said there’s ‘more people than in Ben Hur’ in the present Wolves squad so this needs trimming. He told the Express And Star.

‘There`s more people than in Ben Hur! And there were thousands in that movie. You need an abacus to count how many we`ve got. It`s something we have to look at. We need to trim the squad, there`s no two ways about it.’

Even accounting for those currently injured Lambert feels we’ve got too many players with him aiming for a squad of around 23. He added.

‘You can`t have that many when you train – one, you lose fitness with everybody else and two, there`s just too many. It`s still high even with the injured lads. I`d say 23 would be an optimum number.’

It will be interesting to see if Lambert is actually looking to make signings as he’ll literally have to ship out a good 10 players to warrant Molineux arrivals in light of his comments wouldn’t he?

Millwall are being linked with Jed Wallace so he could become one of the Wolves exodus next month.
