Stoke have nearly completed a deal to take Wolves winger Michael Kightly away from Molineux.

The 26-year-old has one year to run on his contract at Molineux and Wolves gaffer Ståle Solbakken has already stated that he would weight up the reasons behind either selling him for a decent transfer fee or offering him a new contract.

Well it would seem that Stoke’s second bid has swayed Solbakken, with Wolves reportedly accepting a £1.5million offer, which includes another £1million in 12 months time and further instalments to make the total fee £3million.

Kightly is expected to have a medical today and complete the deal, assuming personal terms can be agreed.

Vital Wolves Comment: Kightly’s departure is the biggest blow of all the players who have left Molineux so far this summer.

While there is arguments for and against letting Adlene Guedioura, Sam Vokes and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing leave, it seemed just plain daft that we were letting Kightley’s contract run down.

He would have been an important player for us this season and obviously the lure of the Premier League probably would have meant that he would have left anyway, at least if we had tied him down to a contract earlier we could have perhaps forced a bigger fee.
