Following the weekend’s draw with Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers were back in Europa League action yesterday evening as we welcomed Slovan Bratislava to Molineux, and we were looking for our third win on the spin in the competition.

Wolves better dominated the game, but come the half time break we had nothing to show for it as the scores remained tied.

With a noticeable improvement in the second period, after Ruben Neves had wasted an opportunity from the penalty spot, we finally had our breakthrough but we had to wait. Raul Jimenez made it 1-0 two minutes into stoppage time.

Our Mexican star didn’t celebrate the goal owing to the nasty injury sustained by Kenan Bajric, and all fans will be hoping the lad is okay after that accidental clash.

Speaking to the official site following the final whistle, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said of our efforts on the night.

“You look at all the game and we controlled it really well, we played good in the first-half and in the second-half there were too many chances and allowed Slovan chances to create counter-attacks, it was beginning to come apart. But fortunately, I think we deserved this win because the boys worked hard and the support of the fans until the end – it was a good moment for everybody. I wanted a lot of things from the game, some of them happened and others not, but the way we work we try to regroup for the next one.”
