Going into this weekends Midlands clash,we are about to find out if Villa are still up for the relegation fight and up for playing for Gerard Houllier!
I think out of all the teams in the bottom ten, Villa stand out as being the team that shouldn’t be there, too good to go down etc, so what’s gone wrong this year?
They play a very wide game with Ashley Young and Marc Albrighton on the flanks, so two good wide men, the same as us really!
Their results in a way are very much in the same vane as ours, up and down is probably the best way to describe it, Ashley Young’s desire to get away is perhaps affecting moral and I’m not convinced that Gerard Houllier is the man for the job but that’s another story for another day.
Looking at recent home form they have lost 1-0 to Sunderland, beat Man City 1-0, drawn with Fulham and lastly beat Blackburn 4-1 so as you can see ‘erratic’ is the order of the day.
I think we’ll go 4-5-1 in this game, that I think, will suit us and maybe cause Villa some problems, however with only one away win all season at Liverpool when Uncle Woy was struggling, a draw looks more likely than an away win, which I would hastily add, I would be more than happy with.
The game at Molineux was Mr Houllier’s first in charge and I remember was won by a really good header from Emile Heskey making his comeback into the Villa side, wouldn’t it be nice for us to do the same to them with a certain Michael Kightly maybe returning with a place on the bench!
If you look at those last four results at home, a loss, a win, a draw and then a win, the next one is due to be a negative we hope!
I think a close, low scoring score draw is on the cards. And in closing I would like to add that I hope both our great clubs can avoid dropping out of, what is this year, probably the most competitive Premier League of them all!
