It was being reported yesterday that Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Matt Doherty had now withdrawn himself from the Republic of Ireland squad for their November based international games.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a sterling season once again with Wolves given how we’ve taken to life in the Premier League following promotion last season, and his 14 appearances so far have won him plenty of additional plaudits.

Finding himself back in the Eire setup for this month’s international break, reportedly spent Tuesday with a specialist on the facial injury he picked up in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal last weekend, and following advice, he will now get some rest and recuperation.

He took an elbow to the head in the match and he has not joined up with the group as expected.

At the time of writing this is being pretty well covered by the media now, but I can’t find specific confirmation from the club nor any information on whether it’s an issue that won’t correct itself over the fortnight break, but hopefully there are no greater concerns here.
