Injury boost as Wolves midfielder recovers from twisted ankle ahead of PL return

|

Morgan Gibbs-White has recovered from injury ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ trip to face West Ham United on June 19-21.

The 20-year-old twisted his ankle in Wolverhampton Wanderers U23s 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on March 2 and spent a number of weeks recovering.

The Mirror confirmed days ago, however, that Gibbs-White is back while Sports Gambler confirmed that Wolves don’t have any injured first-teamers, so the central midfielder will hope to make the squad that travels to London in the coming weeks.

Gibbs-White has a lot to prove before the season comes to a close. The England U21 international has struggled for form, fitness and playing time under Nuno Espirito Santo and did himself no favours by breaching lockdown regulations after the campaign was postponed due to Covid-19.

This season, Gibbs-White has made 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal. He’s made only three appearances in 2020, however, so it’s unlikely that he’ll feature against the Hammers. Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker are ahead of the 20-year-old in the pecking order, so his long-term future may be in doubt.

Supporters have suggested loaning Gibbs-White out next season while Vital Wolves have named Queens Park Rangers’ Eberechi Eze as his potential successor, so decisions need to be made.
