Injury blow for Wolves as 25-year-old is doubtful ahead of Espanyol clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers could be without Jonny Otto ahead of Thursday’s Europa League last-32 clash with Espanyol as he’s carrying a knock on his ankle.

The 25-year-old was fouled by Ben Godfrey in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Norwich City and will need assessing before a decision is made on his availability.

Nuno explained to Joe Edwards of the Express and Star: “Jonny has been struggling… “We’re going to see (before making a decision on Thursday). It was a big kick. Let’s see.”

Jonny was brought off in the 80th minute for Ruben Vinagre and now faces a race to be fit in time. The 20-year-old is only just returning from a hamstring injury, so he may not be 100%.

With Ryan Giles being loaned out to Coventry City last month, Wolves don’t have any other natural left-backs available in their registered Europa League squad.

Jonny has been a regular under Nuno this season, making 38 appearances in all competitions, so he’ll be a big loss. Having Vinagre back in action is good timing, however. He made his return against Norwich, coming off the bench late in the second half.

The 20-year-old was a regular in Wolves’ Europa League campaign when fit, so he may have been in line to start against Espanyol anyway.
