Injury blow as Wolves could be without defender against Tottenham, 20-year-old may start

According to Nathan Judah of the Express and Star, Wolverhampton Wanders could be without Jonny Otto against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The 25-year-old is still struggling with ankle injury picked up in Wolves’ 3-0 win over Norwich City (February 23).

Jonny was kicked by Norwich defender Ben Godfrey and left the game in a protective boot. He was left out of Wolves’ Europa League squad in Thursday’s 3-2 defeat to Espanyol and isn’t expected to return in time to face Spurs – Ruben Vinagre replaced Jonny against Norwich and could start at left-back on Sunday.

The 20-year-old didn’t have the best game against Espanyol, however, so Nuno Espirito Santo might be slightly worried about the prospect of his young defender coming up against Giovani Lo Celso, Erik Lamela, Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura.

Vinagre has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, but he’s hardly featured in the Premier League as Jonny has been first-choice. The Portuguese u21 international has racked up just 348 minutes of top-flight football, only 51 of which has come in 2020, so he could be dropped in the deep end on Sunday.
