Following Portuguese wonderkid Ruven Neves’ arrival at Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Molineux back in the summer of 2017 from Porto, the now 22-year-old has simply gone from strength to strength.

Having more than proven his quality in the Championship title winning season of 2017/18 with some classy strikes and performances, with ten caps for his country to his name now, he’s more than shown he has made the adjustment to the English Premier League and his stock continues to rise.

With 32 starting appearances to his name in 2018/19 under head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, he also boasts two substitute showings and those games have returned four goals and two assists so far, and back in the buildup to the January transfer window barely a day went by without him being linked to the likes of Manchester City or Liverpool.

Liverpool rumours continue to fill up the media rumour mill and Portuguese outlet Ojogo have come up with a more novel way of linking him to Anfield in recent days.

Speaking to Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders, a man who worked with him earlier in his career, in the old days we might have called this a puerile attempt to tap him up, but in the modern media anything apparently goes.

“I know him very well, his ambition, his passion for the game, his professionalism. I know what he gives to the team and this type of player always interests us. I recognised him when I saw him at Wolves. I saw technique, professionalism. I saw the 2013-14 player I knew.”

Now in fairness, he says ‘type of player’ with no direct suggestion Jurgen Klopp is in for him and even then, given how much of a leading question it must have been to elicit that answer, it’s unfair to solely blame him as he is simply praising Neves – who rightly deserves praise.

It’s just not cricket for me though, especially as it leaves others like Sky Sports to headline:

Wolves’ Ruben Neves would interest Liverpool, says assistant Pep Lijnders
