“He can leave any day” – Wolves loan manager admits 24 y/o could leave this summer

|

Seyi Olofinjana admitted Adama Traore “can leave any day” from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, but Wolves don’t want to become a selling club as they’re looking to become a top-six Premier League side.

Olofinjana’s comments may fly in the face of that policy, however, as he’s not denying the possibility of Traore leaving ahead of next season. Raul Jimenez will reportedly be granted a departure amid links with Juventus, and now his teammate may be given the green light to follow him through the exit door.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Olofinjana, who is Wolves’ Loan Pathway Manager, told Goal: “Traore is a good player and we’ve all seen what he is capable of doing. His sheer pace, power, goalscoring stint, skills on the ball and also running the length of the pitch.

“He’s been doing it for the past few seasons, so we are very much aware of what he brings to the table. In terms of what will happen to him going forward, the league has not ended, so we need to wait for that. We can’t ignore the fact that he has done very well for the club.

“Anybody can leave Wolves, he came from somewhere and he can leave any day. Regarding genuine transfer interest in our players, there are procedures and policies that we consider as a club, they tell us whether it is the right step for us or not.”

Traore joined Wolves from Middlesbrough in 2018 and has made 79 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and making 13 assists. The 24-year-old has had a hand in 16 goals from 43 games this season, creating 38 chances, making 145/195 successful dribbles and finding a teammate with 31/144 crosses.

He’s one of the best natural wingers in Europe, so it’s no surprise that Liverpool and United are showing an interest. It’s more of a shock that Olofinjana would issue a ‘come and get me’ plea to potential suitors, however. Wolves won’t want clubs getting a sense that their best players are available for sale.
