This week speculation has grown that Wolverhampton Wanderers might face a battle with Manchester City come January over midfielder Ruben Neves.

The 21-year-old Portuguese star needs little introduction at the Molineux following his arrival from Porto for a reported £15.8million back in the summer of 2017 and his stats speak for themselves with 44 appearances so far producing seven goals and numerous assists, and part assists as he helped us storm to promotion to the Premier League as Championship title winners.

It’s no surprise to anyone he will be on the radar of others, the fact there wasn’t any real interest this summer probably can be washed with the big boys wanted to see how he took to life in the top-flight before placing their own value on him.

Suffice to say in recent times Manchester City have become heavily linked, especially with Pep Guardiola seeing Jorginho head to Chelsea and the Star were one of a number to report that come January they would test our resolve.

They even claimed he would be their top target.

I wouldn’t panic yet, they didn’t make a permanent move for Neves and they are more than capable of making a very tempting loan to buy offer and they haven’t, so my guess, at least at this stage is it was a quiet day in the Star’s ‘invent something’ office and this is what they came up with.

The fact they can throw out £60million as a potential fee based on Riyad Mahrez makes it more clickbaity. Oh, and the fact we play them next makes it incredibly well timed.

Bin 13 – at least for now.
