Leeds United signed Helder Costa permanently for £16m and supporters have credited Wolverhampton Wanderers for making a profit on the 26-year-old. Costa joined Wolves from Benfica for £13m in January 2017, but the Midlands outfit have managed to make their money back and cover his wages over the last three years.

Costa initially joined Wolves on loan from Benfica in the summer of 2016 and made 29 appearances before turning the move permanent in the mid-season transfer window. The Portuguese international ended up playing in 40 games, scoring 12 goals with 11 assists.
In his second season at Wolves (2017/18), Costa featured 39 times, scoring five goals with six assists, but he struggled for appearances the following campaign. The 26-year-old played in 30/46 games and amassed 1529/4140 minutes of football, so a departure looked on the cards ahead of 2019/20.
Costa made 43 appearances on loan at Leeds, scoring four goals with six assists, and he’s now a permanent signing at Elland Road. It’s impressive for Wolves to make a profit on a player that became surplus to requirements, but he also had well-wishes from supporters.
Costa was a good servant that struggled to make the step-up to the Premier League, so there are no hard feelings.
