Wolverhampton Wanderers travelled to Bochum, Germany at the weekend to take part in the H-Hotels Cup.

The pre-season tournament saw Wolves play two 45 minute games against Vfl Bochum 1848 and Real Betis Balompie as we continue to build our fitness ahead of the coming 2018/19 Premier League campaign.

The semi-final tie in the Cup saw us face off against tournament hosts Bochum and with the scores tied 0-0 at the full-time whistle, the match went straight to penalties. Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Pedro Concalves and Bright Enobakhare all converted from the spot and Rui Patricio helped himself to two penalty saves, but it wasn’t enough as their stopper saved efforts from Raul Jimenez, Conor Coady and Ryan Giles.

We faced Real Betis Balompie in the consolation fixture and that too finished with a scoreless draw.

Wolves line-up vs VfL Bochum 1848:
Patricio, Buur, Bennett, Coady, Hause, Giles, Neves, Goncalves, Enobakhare, Jimenez, Jota.

Wolves line-up vs Real Betis Balompie:
Ruddy, Doherty, Saiss, Batth, Boly, John, Gibbs-White, Watt, Costa, Ashley-Seal, Cavaleiro.

  • “Wolves reach semi-finals”.

I’m a relentless optimist, but “reach” is an incredibly positive spin as we STARTED in the semi-finals!

Jokes aside, did you watch the matches yesterday – it was nice that they could be streamed? Typical pre-season stuff with not a lot happening, but we generally looked organised with Giles, Cav & Costa looking particularly threatening with a few nice touches/shot from Jiminez & 2 excellent penalty saves from Rui. That Benny Ashley Seal is one hell of unit, too. Big, strong and fast & could become a player yet.
