In a recent interview Wolves gaffer Mick McCarthy clearly stated he was after an impact signing during this January transfer window.

He didn’t want someone who will just make up the numbers, he didn’t even specify that he would look for people to develop over time, he wanted someone who specifically had experience of the Premier League, who could walk in through the Molineux doors and make an instant impact.

Within hours of this interview doing the rounds on the internet, Sky Sports News then reported that we have handed a trial to Mark Fotheringham.

Who? I hear a few of you cry?

Well Fotheringham is a 28-year-old Scottish midfielder who has an awful lot of experience in other countries, but absolutely no experience of the Premier League in England.

He has played in Scotland with Celtic, Dundee, Dundee United and Livingston. He has played in Germany with SC Freiburg, Switzerland with FC Aarau and Cyprus with Αnorthosis Famagusta, but the closest to the Premier League he has got was a stint in the Championship with Norwich.

It seems a strange move, but nonetheless, according to Sky Sports he will be training with us this week and may have even featured in a behind-closed-doors match against Burnley yesterday.
