Explained: Who is the QPR player Wolverhampton Wanderers want to sign in January?

|

Despite Wolverhampton Wanderers have a trusted left-back in Jonny Otto, the Midlands outfit could be looking to strengthen in the January transfer window.

According to Pete O’Rourke of the Football Insider, Wolves are interested in Ryan Manning and could make a move for the Queens Park Rangers defender next month.

Manning has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating five goals. The 23-year-old has impressed in a makeshift left-back role under Mark Warburton and could be subject to a bid from one of two clubs.

Everton and Newcastle United could reportedly battle Wolves for Manning’s signature, but it remains to be seen why either Premier League club wants the Irishman. The Toffees have Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines at left-back while United have Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems at their disposal.

That being said, Wolves also have no immediate need to sign Manning. Jonny is first-choice at left-back under Nuno Espirito Santo while Ruben Vinagre provides backup. Matt Doherty can operate in the role too.

Manning is out of contract at QPR next summer, but the Hoops have the option to extend his deal by 12 months. Time will tell where his future lies next month.
