It looks like we might have to wait to see Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher link up in the Premier League.

Before the Republic of Ireland match last night Doyle believed that he had to feature for his country to be in contention for Wolves at the weekend.

“I need to play some part tonight if I`m to have a chance of playing on Saturday, Because I didn`t play for Wolves at the weekend, Mick is actually hoping I get to play at some stage and get some minutes.’ Doyle told the Express & Star.

So it would have been doubly frustrating for Doyle last night as he watched on from the sidelines as the Republic of Ireland’s debut at the new Aviva Stadium ended in defeat.

Another doubt for the season opener is Dave Edwards.

Edwards was sent home from the Wales camp on Tuesday with a groin injury.
