It was a bad day for Wolves fans yesterday. First off Michael Kightly signed for Stoke and then Steven Fletcher handed in a transfer request following an approach from Sunderland.

“We would like to wish Michael all the best. He joined the Club as a raw young winger from non-league football and developed into an excellent player, making an important contribution to Wolves, particularly during our Championship winning season,” said CEO Jez Moxey discussing Kighly’s departure with the official website.

He added: “Michael wanted to remain in the Premier League, rather than sign the new deal, which had been offered to him and, therefore, we also faced losing him for nothing at the end of his contract.

“Given these facts, we agreed the deal with Stoke and we wish Michael well.”

As Jez alluded to, once his contract was able to run down to less than 12 months to go it was always going to be difficult to tie him down following relegation.

Steven Fletcher was always going to be another one difficult to keep following relegation and with his departure now imminent, are the wheels now in motion to cause a ‘domino effect’?

The expected mass exodus has been avoided to-date, but now one has gone clubs are now well aware that we will sell if the offer is right.

Matt Jarvis has been the subject of various links and rumours, could he be next? Adam Hammill and Christophe Berra are on the transfer list and Ståle Solbakken has indicated that he could be willing to let others go.

It’s likely that we will see a few more changes before the season starts in the next couple of weeks.
