Earlier this afternoon head coach Nuno Espirito Santo brought the curtain down on a very successful first season back in the Premier League for Wolverhampton Wanderers as we made the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.

Wolves were looking to close the year out with a win, but Liverpool knew they had to take all three points as well to ensure that they did all the keep to keep title hopes alive.

Liverpool were clearly up for the game and were the better side on the day, but we limited them to only five shots on target (we had two) but that was enough for Sadio Mane to take victory with a brace of goals in either half.

A disappointing way to bring the curtain down on the campaign and the travelling fans would’ve hoped for more, but there’s no way this result takes away from what has been a great first year back in the top flight.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, Nuno said of our efforts on the day.

“We had a good game against a fantastic opponent. We started not so good but we had good chances. It’s the end of the season. Until the last minute we showed total commitment and that’s what I went. We had chances but weren’t clinical. We knew we would be facing a tough opponent. The commitment, belief and ideas were there. We will try to improve and build a good team next season.”
