You can understand what he was trying to say, but that didn’t stop Chief executive Jez Moxey digging himself a deeper hole this week.
At last weeks fans` parliament meeting, Moxey used the term ‘fickle’ towards supporters, when asked a question in relationship to sarcastic cheering at Karl Henry`s substitution against Newcastle.
You could understand what he meant, at the time most on Vital Wolves didn’t agree with the booing and jeering of a whole hearted committed Wolves player, just because he had one off game.
Football supporters are well known for being fickle, changing their minds as often as the wind changes direction.
So when Moxey clarified his comments to the Express & Star, it was hardly back page news.
“Come on, guys, newsflash! Some fans – and I stress ‘some` – are fickle!”
But while his remarks might have been easily forgotten, his follow up comments were a little bit harder to laugh off.
An anonymous email sent to a Wolves supporters` blog site went on to claim that Moxey said: “Stoke fans are better than Wolves fans”.
Not exactly something you want to hear from your own Chief executive.
Moxey to his credit, was once again quick to clarify this remark with the E&S adding: “A person who goes to Stoke games came to our match against Swansea and commented to me that he couldn`t believe the negativity. But I would never say Stoke fans are better than Wolves fans.”
Again, the full comment is perfectly understandable, so thankfully it all seems a big misunderstanding.
Vital Wolves Comment: However you do have to wonder why the initial anonymous email was sent to stir up the trouble in the first place?
Either way, perhaps Moxey should try and think about his words more carefully in future, to avoid any possible twisting of his comments.
