Mick McCarthy was quite philosophical following the departure of Jelle Van Damme to Standard Liege.
We all had high hopes for the 27-year-old Belgium international, but after a short few months, he’s gone, much to the disappointment of McCarthy who thought he could have been a good signing.
“I like Jelle but even if there`s just one per cent of him not committed why would we keep him when we`ve got lads totally committed to it?’ Mick told the Express & Star
He continued: “When he first came he did want to be here and when he played he gave his lot. He started in the team but got injured in the first game. And it`s just not worked out for him personally after that.
“Whether it`s family life or not, sometimes all the little things just add up to the fact that it just doesn`t work out. There was never any point trying to keep him to his contract but he`s never been a bad influence.’
Vital Wolves Comment: At least we recouped the transfer fee so did not miss out financially. Perhaps this will give Mick some spending money in January?
