Reports of Leon Clarke’s demise at Wolverhampton Wanderers have been greatly exaggerated.

As recently as earlier this week striking misfit Leon Clarke was linked with a move away from Wolves.

After just six months at Molineux Kenny Jackett was apparently happy to chalk this one up to experience and move on.

After scoring for fun with Coventry City he managed just one goal in his 13 appearances for Wolves last season.

Former club Coventry City didn’t even want to take him back and it was Scunthorpe United who were being linked.

Fast forward to today following another two goals against Bohemians, easing Wolves to a 3-1 victory on their last Ireland tour game and Jackett is now backing Clarke to hit the goal trail this season in the Championship.

“For Clarke to score in every game is good and also Nouha (Dicko scored the third) got a very unusual goal in the second with some power and some perseverance,” Jackett told Wolves Official Website.

He added: “For those forwards to get goals early in pre-season does help – it builds them up.

“Clarke has got a lot of experience and I think in either role, the number 9 or the number 10 that type of power is going to be needed in the Championship.”

Football, it’s a funny game.
