‘Championship would be ideal’ – Midfielder could leave Wolves on loan next season

|

Connor Ronan has an uncertain future at Wolverhampton Wanderers as he’s been short of first-team football for the Black and Gold and has one year remaining on his deal.

The 22-year-old’s last outing in a Wolves shirt came all the way back in 2017 and he’s spent the last two years on loan to various clubs, so it’s hard to see Nuno Espirito Santo giving him a look-in.

In an interview with The Athletic, Ronan admitted doubt over his future and said: “If a Championship loan came about, I’d like to think I’m ready, having got used to men’s football and that physicality in League One. When I broke in at Wolves under Paul Lambert, I played four or five games in the Championship where I thought I held my own and that was a few years ago. I’m a better player physically and technically.”

Ronan joined Wolves from Rochdale in 2014 and has gone on to make 13 appearances in all competitions. The 22-year-old’s lack of first-team football led him to being loaned out to Portsmouth (January 3, 2018 – May 31, 2018), Walsall (August 31, 2018 – January 1, 2019), Dunajska Streda (January 31, 2019 – December 31, 2019) and Blackpool (January 17, 2020 – May 31, 2020), so it remains to be seen if he’ll be retained for another year.

The Athletic say ‘Ronan’s primary aim is to play under Nuno again (or seek a) Championship loan move. It’s unlikely that Ronan will get playing time with Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker, Bruno Jordao and Morgan Gibbs-White for competition, so he might have to be moved on temporarily or permanently this summer.

if he was to leave he could take MGW with him because he will never be a first team player. The temperament in MGW is not there.
