It doesn’t take a tactical genius to know where Wolves went wrong against Blackburn on Saturday.
When you can’t keep clean sheets, something we haven’t done since April, then questions are going to be aimed towards your defence, no matter what excuses you can give to try and explain the reasons why, questions will be asked and Berra has stepped up to answer those questions.
‘It was very disappointing,’ Christophe Berra told Wolves Official Website before adding ‘Blackburn are good at set pieces and score a lot of goals from dead ball situations.
‘And they punished us with two of them on Saturday.
‘You have to defend set pieces as a team and we didn’t do that.’
The game in all honesty could have finished 4-4 with Wolves not being able to take advantage of a glut of chances during the opening stages of the game and towards the end.
Arguably when their goalkeeper is many peoples man of the match, for me the scoreline would appear harsh.
But while I might make the odd excuse (not many as the defending was atrocious), Berra was making no excuses as he added: ‘We’ve had chances in the game but again we can’t keep saying that – we have to learn from it.’
So what’s the answer? Spend in January? Wait for Craddock’s return? Change the system to be more resolute in midfield?
