This week the Premier League proposed that the fourth Champions League spot goes to a winner of what would become the Premier League Play-Offs.

Just like what they have in the Football League, clubs finishing fourth to seventh, would have a mini cup tournament with the winner taking the final Champions League spot.

A similar idea happens across Europe and it works to keep interest in the league for longer.

The idea has its supporters, mainly every club that has little chance of qualifying for the top four and it has its knockers, mainly those clubs who already do compete for the top four (fancy that).

One of its supporters is Wolves legend Steve Bull.

‘I must admit I was excited by the idea of a play-off for the final Champions League place in the Premier League. The Football League play-offs create a lot of excitement at the end of the season, as well as ensuring many games that would have nothing riding on them suddenly have more interest, so why can`t it have the same effect on the top flight?’ Steve Bull wrote in his Express & Star column.

He added: ‘It`s definitely a better idea than the 39th game, which never seemed very logical, and could make for a cracking end to the Premier League season every year.’

Vital Wolves Comment: Have to agree with Bully, the play-off idea is a good one.

Obviously the Premier League are only interested in it as a way to make more money, but for once this idea would also benefit the fans and create an exciting end to the season.
