Steven Fletcher will discuss personal terms with Sunderland today after Wolves agreed a fee with the Premier League club for the striker.
The 25-year-old has been linked with Sunderland throughout the summer so it will probably not take too long for the formalities to be completed and once a medical is done the deal will be formally announced.
The fee is thought to be in the region of £12million up front with add-ons taking the deal up to around £14million, which is close to the £15million price that Jez Moxey was reportedly haggling after.
There should also be a sell-on clause in the deal, something that Burley also had when they sold him to us a couple of years ago.
We paid a club record £7million in 2010 for Fletcher, so Burnley will receive a healthy sell-on clause as they take £15% of any profit made, although I’m not sure how that works when the deal is in instalments. Either way both Wolves and Burnley should be happy as we have both made a good deal of cash from this deal.
With Matt Jarvis also expected to complete his move to West Ham it finally draws a line under the ongoing transfer wrangling with the duo both wanting to leave Molineux.
It’s a shame to see them go, but has been inevitable for weeks.
One thing is for certain Moxey has done a good job on maximising how much we bring in from these two sales and if any of that money is handed over to Ståle Solbakken then that should be plenty of funds for him to improve the squad for the promotion push.
