With Wayne Hennessey returning from injury quicker than expected, Wolves fans now have the interesting scenario over who should be the teams number one?
Almost three months ahead of schedule Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey made his return to the football pitch last week.
After being told it would take at least nine months to recover from, Hennessey featured for Wolves Under-21’s against Chelsea, just six months after surgery to repair his ruptured cruciate ligament.
He was named as Wolves only over-age player in the side and he featured for the first 45 minutes. He still has to complete his rehabilitation with Hennessey requiring a couple of days rest between sessions to build his fitness up.
But obviously the 25-year-old only has one target and that’s to displace Carl Ikeme for the number one shirt and that battle is set to be fought over the next month.
“I`m ready to kick-on now and it`s going to be a good battle. I think Wolves are fortunate to have three good goalkeepers on the books.’ Hennessey told the Shropshire Star.
He continued: “Carl has been doing unbelievably and is one of the best in the division, I`ve been in a team which has won the division before and Dorus (de Vries) has come through the play-offs with Swansea.
“We`ve been here for a while and we all know about the competition for places when we are all fit. The more competition the better – it keeps you on your toes and there`s no chance of anyone getting laid back or sloppy.”
Vital Wolves Comment: So how does Ståle Solbakken make his choice?
Should Carl Ikeme have to lose form before losing his shirt? Or should Hennessey be reinstated as soon as he is 100% fit regardless of Ikeme’s form?
Where exactly does this leave Dorus de Vries? A talented Dutch goalkeeper who has been a transfer target of Liverpool’s despite a lack of game time since moving to Molineux?
Do we need three goalkeepers and how would you rank them?
